How to Write a CV That Gets You Hired [With Template]
Ever felt like your CV went into a black hole? No call. No feedback. Nothing. You are not alone, but that doesn’t mean you are not qualified.
It often means your CV didn’t communicate your value clearly.
We see thousands of CVs each year, at Hillgate Recruitment, and we know exactly which ones stand out.
We will share with you how to make sure yours is one of them:
Step 1: Start With a Strong Personal Statement
Your CV isn’t just a list, it’s a pitch. Start with 3–4 lines about who you are, your skills, and what you bring to the table.
Example:
“Detail-oriented warehouse operative with 4+ years’ experience in fast-paced environments. Skilled in stock control, team leadership, and safety compliance. Looking to contribute to a growing logistics firm.”
Step 2: Use Clear, Bullet-Pointed Work History
Instead of walls of text, use this format:
Job Title – Company Name, Location (Month/Year – Month/Year)
-
- Key duty or achievement #1
- Key duty or achievement #2
- Technology or tools used
Example:
Forklift Operator – ABC Logistics, Leeds (Jan 2021 – Present)
-
- Managed daily inventory of 3,000+ items
- Operated counterbalance forklift with zero safety incidents
- Trained 2 new hires on warehouse protocol
Step 3: Add Education, Certifications, and Skills
Even if your education isn’t recent, it adds context. Also list:
-
- Certifications (e.g., Forklift, Food Safety, CSCS)
- Software/tools (e.g., Excel, SAP, WMS)
- Languages or additional soft skills
Step 4: Avoid These Common Mistakes
-
- Typos or bad formatting
- Irrelevant work experience
- No contact info!
- Listing duties instead of achievements
